Well I can’t wear the new dress Because my room isn’t clean And I’m not clean either, So I haven’t earned it yet
And I can’t start reading now, Because I haven’t done the dishes Or, actually, any of my assignments And there’s dust collecting on top of my bookshelf, Which I should really clean Or should have cleaned yesterday, I have people coming over tomorrow, I really need to clean everything So I haven’t earned rest
I haven’t earned the rest And I haven’t earned lunch Because if I wanted to eat, I should have eaten earlier, At 1:00, now it’s 4, and it’s not lunch time anymore Now I have to wait for dinner time, which is after 6, But before I eat dinner I need to dissect my entire being And stalk someone’s LinkedIn And realize I am falling incredibly behind Very, very behind And I haven’t earned the rest
And maybe I haven’t earned anything at all So maybe I’ll actually just sit here And do nothing And just think about how much doing nothing is costing Me, and while everyone else is moving and doing I’ll sit and let my vision spiral, spiral, spiral and my hearing stop Till I’m gone
But if I haven’t earned it today Maybe I will tomorrow, and until then I’ll leave the tag on the dress and wait
